If you could switch lives with a famous person for a week, who would it be and why?

Come sit a spell and talk about swapping lives for a week….

I wouldn’t. No one comes to mind, and if I’m honest, I don’t really understand the appeal. I’m doing my best to keep my own life moving in the right direction. What would I gain in my life by stepping into someone else’s for seven days?

I might find out things I didn’t want to know. Maybe the life I imagined for them isn’t anything like the one they’re living. Then I’d come back to my own life carrying that knowledge and wondering what to do with it. Would I feel worse about my circumstances? Would I be disillusioned about theirs?

As I have been on this trip I’ve met many different people, and shared stories with them. There’s a couple on the ship that will be traveling to all seven continents, and he is proposing on each continent. It’s a beautiful love story but not the reality for most of us. We’ve met a man who booked the cruise two days prior to it leaving in Barcelona – he’s working while on the boat and just didn’t want to fly back to the states. Not the reality most of us live, being in a world where we work on two continents and can just hop a cruise and take two weeks to get home while still working on the ship. I’ve watched interactions between spouses and am left wondering if I am seeing the

A week seems like just enough time to start comparing, but nowhere near enough time to understand the whole story. I’d only see a small piece of someone else’s life, and I might mistake that glimpse for the truth. Comparison is the thief of joy, and an incomplete comparison could steal a little joy from both sides.

I’ll stay here, then, with the life that has my fingerprints on it. I’ll keep tending what I’ve built, making room for growth without treating myself like a problem to solve. I don’t need another person’s story to prove that mine matters, or a different path to make my own worthwhile. This is the life I have, the person I am, and the road I choose—and I’m learning to walk it with gratitude, courage, and my whole heart.

But tell me – is there a piece of this in missing? Do you see the appeal and am I just being too critical?
