Do you set personal goals for yourself?

Good morning from the Miami airport. The ship has sent us ashore, and today’s prompt has me thinking about goals.
I do set goals for myself, but I’m not a write-them-down-and-check-them-off kind of girl. How formal I am depends on what I’m working toward. A group project needs more structure so everyone understands the plan and knows what they’re responsible for. Personal goals can be looser. I like having room to figure things out as I go.
I can work within a structured framework when I need to. I just don’t believe every goal has to follow one fixed path or timeline. Think about college. The goal might be to graduate, but a student could change majors, take fewer classes at a time, or need longer than expected. The plan changes, but that doesn’t mean the goal is lost.
Sometimes the goal itself changes, too. We learn more about what we want, or life takes us somewhere we didn’t expect. Adjusting the goal or the path isn’t an all-or-nothing decision. It doesn’t mean we failed. It means we’re paying attention and making a choice that fits where we are now.
I like goals that give me direction without making me feel trapped. I can take a different route, change the pace, or decide I’m headed somewhere new. There’s still value in knowing what matters to me, even if I don’t have every step mapped out.
Sometimes the goal is simply a place to begin, with enough room to grow along the way
