How do you define success in life?

Good morning, and come sit a spell. The coffee is ready, the rain is falling, and today’s question asks how I define success in life.
I’m still figuring out the exact words, but I know success isn’t about being rich or having a life that looks impressive from the outside. For me, it means being able to take care of the people I love: financially, emotionally, and socially. I want to be someone they can count on, someone who listens, shows up, and can help when help is needed.
I do feel successful in some of those ways. I’m there for the people I love. I make time for them, care about what they’re going through, and try to be a steady presence in their lives. But the financial part is harder. I’m not as secure as I want to be, and I often feel that same strain is weighing on so many people around me. It can be difficult to think of financial security as a measure of success when it feels increasingly out of reach for so many of us.
And it isn’t only about being able to cover the essentials. I want some room for the things that make life feel joyful, too. I’d like to take off for a weekend in the mountains, go to the Ren Faire, or splurge on gifts for the people I love just because I know they’d enjoy them. Those aren’t extravagant dreams. They’re ordinary pleasures, but right now they can feel like luxuries I have to talk myself out of.
Maybe the words I’m looking for are “comfort plus.” I’m not wishing for a lavish life. I want enough stability to breathe, and enough extra room to say yes now and then: to an outing, a small adventure, or a gift that brings someone delight. I want to care for the people I love without feeling that my own hopes always have to wait.
So perhaps success isn’t one final destination where every worry disappears. Maybe it’s a life with care at its center, and enough security and freedom around it to enjoy being here. I have some of that already. I’m still working toward the rest.
For now, that’s my answer: success means showing up for the people I love, while building a life with a little more breathing room, comfort, and joy. Sit with that thought for a while, and tell me: what does success look like to you
